ABOUT NEW YORK SUPERFOODS

We Needed Something Better

After eating yet another tasteless energy bar before a big workout in the summer of 2010, we realized we were unsatisfied with the current selection of running bars, gels mixes and powders.

We agreed that there needed to be something better...there had to be a product that tasted natural, had a readable ingredient list and was gluten-free and dairy-free.

Inspiration, Education

One superfood that especially intrigued us was the chia seed (Salvia hispanica). We learned about the chia seed from Christopher McDougall’s book Born to Run, which is about a hidden tribe of “superathletes” from Copper Canyon in Mexico.

By definition, superfoods are calorie sparse and nutrient rich. They are typically superior sources of antioxidants and other essential nutrients, an example is Omega-3. Your body can't produce it, but it is required for normal body functioning.

This mild-tasting seed is a member of the mint family and had been used by Aztec warriors to fuel their bodies for battle. It is now popular with modern day runners, endurance athletes and fitness-minded people because of its great hydration properties and high fiber content.

Problem Solved

Our introduction to the chia seed prompted us to tinker with ingredients in our kitchen for several months and, after many experiments with different recipes, we created the first ever raw chia health energy bite: the Chia Charger® and now have a full line of other chia products that include peanut butters and a chia seed shaker bottle.

Please enjoy all of our other products as well and send us your feedback!

Sincerely,
